Hello there, this is the first of a series of tapes on communication,

My name is Eli Harari, The Thinking Coach, and I do leadership seminars and personal coaching throughout the world. Leadership is my thing and communication is one of the main skills in leadership, and it goes unnoticed, in most cases because the level is not very high, to put it in a nice way.

Now I am going to talk to you about common mistakes and the solutions. Obviously it is going to be one minute video tapes and you are not going to get “everything” but you are going to get a good understanding and maybe you can work on those skills on your own, and if you need my help you can always reach out, and I’ll be there for you.

The main thing, the first mistake that you need to take into account is that when you speak to other people, don’t make it about you! Leaders tend to do that, they talk about themselves, that is not the way to be, certainly not for men. Men  need to talk about other people, how they can serve them and what they can do for them, and what they can get out from you.

This is what leadership is about, its a people business, you empower people. so you are going to talk and promote yourself, people might nod their heads and say yes, becasue they are used to agree to things. But deep inside they are getting a person who is full of themselves.

The solution is, always talk about people and in specific terms, make sure they get from you the understanding that you are all about them, their success, their unique ability that you are going to promote as a leader. And even on a personal level, when you are one-on-one ask people questions, get interested in them, show them you through your quality rather than you promoting yourself.

This a huge thing and this is a mistake commonly made by many many leaders.
