Breaking Out From A Quarantine State Of Mind – 3 Steps To Think About The Future

With today’s state of mind, the days turn into weeks and Monday’s feel like Thursday’s and weekends blend into our weekdays.

Naturally, we feel an urge to “get back to normal”, and that is natural, that is what we know.

But are we going to be able to really “get back” to what we have called normal up till now?

What is the future going to look like?

What state of mind is going to be required in the onsetting “new reality”?

How are we going to adapt? And what is this “new reality” we are going into?

All these are questions that require, actually demand, that we start to think strategically about the future.

How we are going to adapt to it and actually shape it, and what state of mind will we need for it?

This short article proposes some ideas and solutions which I believe will challenge you to think about…read on.

Getting The Right State Of Mind

From an unknown to an unknown, so we all move forward to the next stage in this on-setting drama.

There’s no instruction manual, no guarantees, no insurance policy that we get it right because the unknown is currently far larger than the known.

The only thing we have is our state of mind and to think-tank our way to a safe breakout with correct usage of thinking/emotions/instincts.

These are extremely powerful “earth movers” within each and every one of us…if they are used correctly.

They have the capacity, on the one hand, to reduce the unknown.

On the other the capacity to provide emotional intelligence that enables the kind of thinking that gets results.

When you engage people together in a smart think-tank more of the big picture gets revealed.

And in this way, a lot can be seen that is now unseen, and thus the level of threat that is currently burdening the minds and emotions can be lifted up.

The Attitude

We need to be careful to avoid the temptation of assumption and thinking we will go back to how things were.

At the same time, we have to have the state of mind to be open to the unknown and seek to see the bigger picture that will gradually reveal itself.

If we go back to our previous “normal” that will be a bonus.

However, we now need to sync our mind to a new, evolving state of affairs and reengage on a personal and business level in a way that places us at the forefront of what is on-setting.

The mind is the only thing that can travel forward and pre-think situations, analyze decisions and consequences according to different scenarios and start working on all “cylinders”.

This is what we need more than ever, outside the box, open-ended questions, seeing the big picture and making wise decisions.

All this, without the gripping fear that blinds us to what is actually happening.

A Proposed 3-Level Think Tank

When we take into consideration the aspect of the budget, advertising, current support for local businesses.

All this stemming from the stand-point of strategic thinking and the power of emotional intelligence as critical “breakout tools from the quarantine state of mind”, there are 3 levels of thinking that need to be addressed.

THE 3 LEVELS

#1 – SHORT TERM – How to think and what to do as a state/county and business while “Stay at Home” orders are still in place? What’s the best way to help your business at this time?

There are 2 basic categories of businesses:
a. Those who are managing to hold on and will likely survive this extreme downturn.
b. Those who are hanging on for dear life – different strategies required.

#2 –  MEDIUM TERM – How to think about the time when “Stay at Home” orders are lifted. All the while there’s no vaccine and no viable test that help reduce the level of the unknown?

How to position yourself to help yourself and possibly other businesses to recover, given all the above parameters…

#3 – LONG TERM RECOVERY – When there’s a vaccine and it’s safe to get back to the normalcy of some kind – how to think about this scenario concerning the two levels of businesses?

It is proposed to hold 3 think tanks to address these 3 deliverables from the standpoint of strategic thinking, emotional intelligence, and practical, outside the box ideas that can be implemented, short-term, medium-term and long-term.

With these 3 levels in mind, and in order to enable the optimal state of mind I propose a three (3) one hour Think Tank session webinars be held that includes:

  • Short-term,
  • Medium-term and
  • Long-term strategies.

Most importantly, these sessions are engaging and develop a life of their own, as they address the unknown, so ideas and solutions can appear from nowhere.
